Introduced by Giacomo Manzoli (University of Bologna)
Aldo, a factory worker, lives with Irma, whose husband has been abroad for years. When the news of her husband’s death arrives, it leads to unexpected confessions and the relationship implodes. Aldo leaves town and begins to wander along the Po River valley, in search of a new life. "While in other films I used the landscape to better define a situation or a mood, in Il grido I wanted it to be a landscape of memory, the landscape of my childhood, seen through the eyes of someone returning home after an intense cultural and emotional experience." (M. Antonioni).
