Through an intensive summer course, Brown students have the opportunity to experience the Cinema Ritrovato Film Festival in Bologna, Italy while studying World cinema at the University of Bologna and the Cineteca di Bologna, one of the most important centers for film restoration in Europe and the home of the Charlie Chaplin and Pier Paolo Pasolini archives. World Cinema in Italy is taught in English by Brown and University of Bologna film scholars. Students will attend public screenings, learn about restoration techniques and will write, shoot, and edit a short film under the direction of one of Italy’s young award-winning directors. The 2024 edition includes a two-week residence and workshops at Casa Fellini, director Federico Fellini's ancestral home in Gambettola, now transformed into a Center for the Filmic and Circus arts.
